1. How to ensure the quality of steel pails?

Answer:

I. We have high-quality automated production lines, and we have machinists with many years of professional production experience who can check and adjust production equipment according to the characteristics of steel pails to achieve the best production state.

 

 

II. We select excellent sealing products according to the different characteristics of different customers' products, such as sealants in the edge of the pail bottom and gaskets in the pail cover, which guarantee the sealing of our various steel pails and metal buckets.

 

III. strict inspection. A fully automatic leak-picking machine is installed at the end of our production line. Every steel pail off the line will be checked for leaks. Leaky pails will be automatically removed, and only qualified products will be shipped to customers. (Please check the video below.)

IV. A scientific management system. We will also manually review the steel pails that are detected to be leaking to confirm the cause. There are two main reasons for leakage. One is that there are sand holes on the raw material steel plate, which cannot be completely avoided. Just remove the unqualified steel pails as waste. The other is that there are signs of looseness in the welding or sealing equipment. After confirmation, the production equipment must be adjusted to reduce the scrap rate, which not only ensures product quality but also better controls costs.

 

2. Covers and lids

question 1: What is the difference between a bucket and a pail?

In the daily field, 'pail' and 'bucket' are two words with very similar meanings, both referring to a type of container made of metal or plastic, used for carrying or holding liquids or other materials. Bucket, more versatile, can be large or small, with various shapes; Pail, usually smaller, emphasizes the presence of a "handle". A bucket is more commonly used in modern English, especially in British English. For the British, the word " pail" is a bit more old-fashioned. Pail is occasionally used in American English, but generally tends to be traditional or literary, and is less common in modern spoken English. Buckets are used in daily general use (such as water buckets and trash cans), while certain small buckets with handles can be replaced with pails, such as a milk pail. In actual use, the two are often interchangeable, but buckets are more common.

In the field of industrial packaging, a pail refers to a professional package with a lid and handles, used to hold liquids and granular products such as paints, chemicals, oils, etc. It has standardized shapes, sizes and sealing requirements. Steel pail is the professional name for this type of industrial metal packaging. There are two types of steel pails: an open head steel pail and the other is a tight head steel pail.

An open head steel pail means that the top of the pail is open and equipped with a cover or lid. The lid needs to be installed after the product is filled. Steel pail with lug lid, or commonly so called metal bucket with lug lid,  is the type of product exported the most. This is because it occupies the least amount of transport space and has low transportation costs. Next is the steel pail with lever lock ring lid. The lug lid of a steel pail or metal bucket is also called a flower lid or a crimp lid / crimp cover.

A tight head steel pail means the upper end of the pail is sealed with a cover, with a small opening on the cover equipped with a cap or spray. This design is more conducive to reducing the contact between the product and the air. It is suitable for products that should try to avoid excessive contact with air during packaging or use, such as quick-drying or self-skinning coatings.

Both types of steel pails can be designed with straigh sided or tapered.

 

Question 3：What are the differences in usage between a tapered pail and a straight sided pail? Which one has more advantages? Why are Tapered Pails now very popular?

Answer:

Generally speaking, tapered pails are more advantageous compared to straight sided pail.

A tapered pail, sometimes called a nesting pail, has sloping sides that narrow towards the bottom, while a straight-sided pail has vertical sides that remain the same width from top to bottom. The main advantage of a tapered pail is that it can be nested inside another tapered pail of the same size, which saves space during storage and shipping. Tapered pails are also easier to stack because they can fit inside each other, allowing for more compact storage. On the other hand, straight-sided pails typically have more internal volume than tapered pails of the same exterior size, making them better for storing larger quantities of products. They also tend to be more stable when stacked high because of their uniform shape. In terms of usage, tapered pails are often preferred for applications where space saving is important, such as shipping multiple pails or storing them in a small area. Straight-sided pails are better suited for storing larger quantities of products or when stability during stacking is a concern. Overall, the choice between a tapered pail and a straight sided pail depends on the specific requirements of the application. The tapered designs are space-saving, which saves a lot of shipping costs. This makes tapered pails a kind of popular metal packaging.

 

 

In the metal packaging industry, a bead refers to the protruding ring grooves on steel pails, metal buckets or drums, which increase the stability and reduce the degree of deformation of the container body. Open head steel pails generally have one or two beads, and tight head steel pails have 1-4 beads. Of course, some customers have extremely high requirements for the roundness of steel pails, so we can customize steel pails with more beads for them.

Usually, an open steel pail has one or two beads on the upper part of the pail wall, while for a tight head pail, besides the upper part of the pail wall, one or two more beads can be added to the lower part of the pail wall to increase the strength of the pail.

 

Of course, due to some customers' special packaging requirements, you can also add a few more beads. For example, some silicon PU factories have special requirements for steel pails.

The reason why open head steel pails usually have only two beads on the upper part of the pails is that the appearance design of the steel pail must not only consider the sturdiness and aesthetics, but also the transportation cost savings. The height of the beads limits the height of the empty pails, which also limits the number of empty pails that can be transported.

 

 

Question 4:In what fields are steel pails actually used?

Answer:

Steel pails have a wide range of applications, including packaging liquids, granules, and powders. However, different products have different packaging requirements, necessitating variations in the details of the steel pails. Otherwise, problems may arise due to the steel pails not meeting product packaging requirements, or the cost of the steel pails may be too high. For example, with liquid products, we need to determine whether the product is oil-based, solvent-based, or water-based. This determines whether the interior of the steel pail should retain its metal surface or require a waterproof chemical coating or film.

Furthermore, steel pail lugs come in two types: tin-plated steel, which is shiny and aesthetically pleasing; and galvanized steel, which offers better rust resistance. Tin-plated steel lugs are generally sufficient, but if the climate at the user's location is very humid and hot, and the product needs to be stored for a long time, galvanized steel lugs are a better choice.

Additionally, the choice of cap and sealing strip should also be based on usage requirements. All conditions can be customized according to customer requirements. Therefore, steel pails are actually customized products for different customer needs, even though they may look similar on the surface. For example, the most commonly used 20L steel pail, 18L steel pails, or 5-gallon steel pails, even for the same model, may have different thicknesses and other details required by different customers.
