18 litre steel pails are widely used in coating, thinner, paint, hardener and other chemicals. The requirements for carrying pails or buckets for products of different natures are also different. For example, solvent-based paints should not be used in lined pails because these coatings lined in the pail may dissolve in solvents. Water-based paints such as many latex paints use coating-lined steel pails to prevent moisture from rusting the pail walls.

The above pail is unlined and the material of it is to coat a layer of metal on the surface of the steel plate to prevent rust, but it should not be in contact with substances with large water content, and can only be used for oily substances, solvent-based substances or stable solid substances.

A brief introduction about lining:

Epoxy-phenolic resin coating: This coating has the widest range of applications. Phenolic resin has excellent acid resistance, but it has poor alkali resistance and low adhesion to metal substrates; epoxy resin has poorer acid resistance than phenolic resin but has good alkali resistance and high adhesion to metal substrates. The epoxy and phenolic resins prepared from the mixture have good adhesion and better comprehensive acid and alkali resistance. The epoxy resin component in it makes it have good adhesion and flexibility. It is mainly suitable for fatty acids, detergents, emulsions, chemicals, surfactants, water-based resins, meat, fish and fruit juices and other foods, and can also be used for internal and external surface coatings of various covers. The baking temperature is about 200-210°C/15min. The content ratio of the two resins can be varied within a wide range. The modified formula can withstand phosphate, however, it will weaken phenolic resin's adherence. Zinc oxide and aluminum powder fillers can be added to foods with a high sulfur content to stop sulfur spots from forming on the inner barrel wall. Zinc oxide-containing coatings are inappropriate for acidic diets and may discolor specific green vegetables.

Acrylic resin coating: It is usually made white with titanium dioxide filler, has good flexibility, has good resistance to acid, alkali, salt, grease, detergent and other chemical stains and corrosion, and has excellent sulfur resistance. It can be used in vegetables, soups and foods containing substances that can form sulfur spots. The inner wall of the container after opening has a pleasing and attractive appearance like ceramics.

Phenolic resin coating: has good coverage and excellent corrosion resistance to chemicals such as acids and solvents. It blocks sulfide ions from penetrating the coating. However, the adhesion to the tinplate surface is poor, especially when the coating thickness is greater than 3-4mm, and the flexibility of the coating is poor. The baking temperature generally does not exceed 190°C, otherwise, the coating penetrates the substrate through the pores of the tin plating layer and thermal degradation occurs. Not recommended for alkaline products.
