World Steel Drum Packaging Industry Development Report Big Spoiler II
ISDI (USA)
There are actually six steel drum manufacturer groups in the United States, with the Houston area being the largest production area. This region produces approximately 9 million barrels per year. The production investigation was suspended after 2020 as the U.S. government tightened competition law restrictions. ISDI urges the government to restore statistics on steel drum production. ISDI noted that U.S. steel drum production has declined, but not as much as in Europe and Asia. The price of cold-rolled steel in the United States is about $1,050 per ton, almost twice that in China. Due to lower energy prices in North America, there is a trend of manufacturing moving to the United States, which is particularly relevant for fillers. ISDI also oversees stricter regulations on the cleaning of used steel drums in the United States. They are working with partners to investigate sustainability considerations in selecting containers and assist procurement professionals in making their choices.
